Express Entry

Express Entry in Canada

Discover the Express Entry system, a method inspired by programs in Australia and New Zealand, strategically engaging individuals interested in Canadian immigration. Aspiring candidates initiate their journey by submitting an “expression of interest,” indicating their keenness for further processing of their immigration to Canada.

This groundbreaking system is set to transform the landscape of Canada’s immigration management. The revamped procedure, accessible through an online portal, assures efficiency and promptness, replacing the traditionally sluggish documentation process with a nimble and streamlined online mechanism.

It’s crucial to understand that Express Entry isn’t an independent immigration program but rather a supportive system crafted to aid Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) in orchestrating their processes with precision. This system empowers the CIC to adeptly identify and select eligible candidates with aspirations to immigrate to Canada.

Federal Economic Immigration Programs

A comprehensive platform that serves both Federal and Provincial governments. Additionally, it empowers employers to select potential candidates from the Express Entry pool—a dynamic reservoir of individuals eligible for any of the “Federal Economic Immigration Programs” listed below.

  • TheFederal Skilled Trades Program
  • TheFederal Skilled Worker Program
  • TheCanadian Experience Class

Upon selection, candidates may be issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for immigration to Canada. However, it is imperative for these individuals to promptly complete their application forms and submit them alongside the necessary documents. The application submission timeframe is limited to 60 days, and the entire process is anticipated to take approximately six months from the date of receiving the application.

Preparing Yourself for Express Entry System

The initial and crucial step towards applying for Canadian immigration through Express Entry is understanding the eligibility criteria. Prospective candidates must carefully assess whether they meet these criteria. Those who qualify can enter the Express Entry pool and subsequently create their Express Entry profiles. Each candidate is assigned a specific rank relative to others in the pool based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Candidates can enhance their rankings by accruing more Canadian immigration points, increasing their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for immigration to Canada. For individuals who may not initially qualify for a specific Federal Economic Immigration Program, there’s an opportunity to improve their chances. This involves enhancing profile factors such as language proficiency, educational credentials, and work experience.

Creating an Express Entry Profile

Initiating the process for Canadian immigration through one of the Federal Economic Immigration Programs requires the candidate to establish an Express Entry profile. The primary step in this journey is the creation of this essential profile.
  1. Follow the instructions closely and set up your account. The system will generate a crucial number essential for signing in.
  2. Enter the personal reference code when prompted by the system; if you don’t have one, proceed to the next step.
  3. Provide your personal details, educational credentials, work experience, and related information.
  4. Once the entire process is finalized, click the submit button.

What Next?

Meeting all the criteria outlined in the Express Entry requirements may lead the immigration department to include you in the Express Entry pool. Upon successful completion of this phase, eligible candidates receive Invitations to Apply (ITAs) through an Express Entry draw. The fundamental element that contributes to gaining an ITA is the accumulation of Canadian immigration points.

Note:Merely creating an Express Entry profile does not automatically designate you as a candidate for Canadian immigration. Furthermore, it does not guarantee that you will receive an invitation to apply for immigration to Canada. Candidates can stay in the Express Entry pool for a duration of one year.

Express Entry system and Provincial Nominee Programs

In addition to federal selection, provinces and territories have the authority to choose eligible candidates from the Express Entry system using the Provincial Nominee Programs. This mechanism enables provinces to address local labor market requirements. The guidelines governing the Express Entry system are established through Ministerial Instructions.

Note: “Entry into the Express Entry pool doesn’t assure candidates of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence. Invited candidates must still fulfill eligibility and admissibility requirements under Canada’s immigration law (Immigration and Refugee Protection Act).”

Comprehensive Ranking System

The top-ranking candidates in the pool are extended invitations to apply for permanent residence, determined by their scores in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), a point-based system. Points are allocated based on the information provided in their profiles, and candidates with the highest scores in the pool are issued Invitations to Apply (ITAs). Candidates accrue Canadian immigration points based on the following factors:
  • A valid job offer from an employer
  • Nomination granted by provinces or territories
  • Essential experience and skill factors
Additional points may be awarded in the following scenarios:
  • If the candidate receives a job offer supported by the Labour Market Impact Assessment
  • When nominated by provincial or territorial authorities
These supplementary Canadian immigration points contribute to an increased ranking, enhancing the likelihood of receiving an ITA through an Express Entry draw. Upon receiving the invitation, candidates are required to submit their applications for Canadian immigration within the next 60 days. The rules pertaining to Canadian immigration for Pakistanis align with these procedures.

Canada Express Entry Processing Time

The processing of completed immigration applications to Canada is overseen by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). Applications that provide all the necessary information and supporting documents are considered in this process. The entire procedure, from processing eligible applications to reaching a decision, typically takes six months or less. However, it’s important to note that candidates may not receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian immigration even after 12 months of submitting an Express Entry profile. In such cases, individuals can create and submit a new profile. If they meet the criteria and remain eligible, these candidates can re-enter the pool.
